You would be wise to avoid buying this at all costs.. This game is really quite good if you are looking for some mindless zombie and demon killing but with the frame rate bug (1fps glitch) this game can be more of a pain to play than it is a joy. More than likely it comes from the fact that they are running this game at directX9 rather than directX10. People say that dx10 for this game had less stability but at least it ran without 1 fps. In the current state it is in I do not advise putting your money to this game until the devs or those who ported this to digital retail fix the blatant performance issues. Seriously Devs fix the game.. Honestly I do not get where the hate is coming from?Yes Bad side is its Single Player and no longer multiplayer however it runs smoothly and the nostalgia hit like a freight train. 9\/10 recommended (-1 for no MP). nostalgia in a bottle, in a can, in a box! ENJOY!. Co-op made this game great, which is sadly missing from this release.. This game runs occasionally at 1-4 FPS on my hardware.Running on a Quad i7 and a 1060 GTX. 16 gigs of Ram. 6 gigs of VRAM. This game is so old, why is it suffering from performance issues on new hardware?. I do not agree with many of the negative reviews this game has got. I am gonna mark it with a thumbs down though but for a more subtle reason.A game several years old that at the time was buggy enough to make gear disappear has been patched and re-released to at least a playable version. I think that on its own deserves some cudos.The 1FPS bugg is still present (as of 24 May 2019) and if it hits me I just restart the game. Tip: I heard of at least one player avoiding the bug altogether by turning down graphic settings.Speaking of which the graphics are uglier than before, probably to avoid a handful of bugs coming with it, but who in their right mind fires up a 12 year old PC game to get some eye candy?I\u00b4m actually enjoying playing Hellgate London again and a lot of it comes from the fact that the crafting system in this game is on a level of its own. Setting together your favorite weapons with random socketed mods (read: weapon specific buffs) is a blast on top of being able to upgrade gear, removing mods and finding blueprints. This particular crafting system is simple, fun, fast and non-expensive rivaling even City of Heroes ditto.The biggest flaw, at least to my mind, is that gear is non-sharable. Since there\u2019s no Multi-Player you cannot let someone hold your gear for another of your toons and is by far the biggest beef I have with this game. Thankfully though you can at least buy 2 bags, size stash 36 and 72 slots, the latter which is for Mods alone and they both help out a LOT with your inventory room. There are other quality of life items you can buy in any store most of which you can afford fairly early in the game.I played in the new Tokyo map but my impression of it was downright abysmal. Not only is the balance of the game completely through the roof on this map (I died 8 times in Tokyo alone on normal difficulty with only1 prior death until the new zone), not a single gear item dropped. No blues, no greens, nothing but consumables.The map itself feels very off-beat with masses of HARD hitting mobs spawning in tight quarters repeatedly where you cannot get away and most likely will die and for whatever reason I had no objectives in the new map but one: port back to the quest hub. I hope eventually some quests will unlock in the new zone on top of actual gear loot but so far my first impression of this new map is that they would have done better leaving it out of the game completely. Btw this new zone seems optional as it still very early in Act2. All in all though I find myself getting back to this game to level up and continue doing quests (and having fun doing it) but if you\u00b4re not a ARPG fanatic, like myself, you might have second thoughts on buying it. If they ever decide to add a shared stash to this Single Player version of Hellgate London, especially as it was added to the retail version short after release back in 2007, I will happily change my Thumbs down to up but until then I cannot cause for me personally it feels detrimental to the core mechanics of the games own design.. I think this game needs to be redone with the technology of games we have now, It could be huge.As for this game its great I remember being in the beta with all the glitches.I have not seen a 1 fps issue yet and I hope I do not as I am finally enjoying a game that I can play for more than 20 mins at a time.. Guys, give companies that make an effort to bring back 'good' games, especially mmos, to steam a 'thumbs-up'. Even a less than ideal port of a past great game is better than most of the modern trash we get on steam nowadays. So again, they're making the effort to bring back a classic game that most people would otherwise never have heard about, so give them credit and use this as impetus to spread news about the 'base' game, being remade by fans etc. Using a game like this people can find out about the fan 'remake' and then go play that, so thumbs this game up to spread the word etc. Heck it still is a good game on it's own, has a much better fun-factor and 'charm' than the more modern and 'better done' (but still lame and soulless) modern day games have... Some people are saying this is a cash grab, but it actually seems like quite a bit of effort went into it. This isn't just a quick rehash of the old offline mode, this is a full port of the Korean online version with all the new content and mechanics added, and all the cash stop stuff converted to function free through normal gameplay. It includes QoL mechanics such as auto disassembling of drops below a certain quality, auto identification, and crafting materials to increase the likelyhood of getting good results from gear upgrading for a bit of extra in game currency. All the new content and quests have been localized, and it looks like the character models\/textures have had an upgrade for a more "asian mmo feel." There are some downsides, like in the original offline mode released by Flagship years ago there is no shared storage, but this has benefits as you need to be disassembling high quality items anyway for crafting, so not being able to hold on to them and share them with alts means it doesn't feel as bad to destroy the items for the stuff you need. The localization isn't great, not only is the new dialog difficult to read in places, it's also mostly nonsense and doesn't fit in with the original story\/feel of the game, but it plays decently. It feels more like fan made content than official content in a way. The biggest complaint I have is the starting tutorial sequence was completely redone so people who have never touched a video game in their life can follow along and learn how to play, which itself isn't that much of an issue, the issues is it overwrites the starting quests which originally introduced your character into the game world and sort of defined who you were. So it's like chapter 1 of the story has been ripped out and replaced with "use WASD to move!! ahahah! you can do it now!!!" This is like 5 minutes of stuff though and it can be skipped, so it's a minor issue. Some of the quests are also a little buggy and not spawning as many interactable objectives as they should be, so sometimes you have to clear a map, move on, then come back later after the map resets and go through some of it again to find the last objectives.Apparently there are some performance issues with specific intel CPUs, but on my Ryzen the game runs very smoothly in all situations. A modder has released a utility that supposedly fixes the performance issues for those effected. As is fairly normal with localization projects though it doesn't seem like the team responsible for this one has the tools required to fix such issues, and they are either leaving it as is or have sent it back to the main team where it might be in a queue to be fixed. Also as usual with Asian developers, there is virtually no communication with English players. Hence all the negative reviews.It's a great game though. I used to play it a lot online then offline with mods. It feels great being able to jump into it again on steam with most of the Korean online version mechanics added in. It's years of content added that we missed in the west due to the blunders of Flagship Studios.------If you are curious about what the game is. Mechanically this is the game that inspired Borderlands\/Destiny\/Warframe\/etc. Way back in 2007 something new came out, a Diablo style game that could be played in first or third person as a shooter. And thus the Looter Shooter genre was born. Later games like Borderlands and Destiny took the genre a little bit more in the skill based shooter direction, Hellgate is more about the RPG and loot. You have a full range of equipment to collect including multiple armor slots that effect how your character looks and a range of weapons that can be upgraded both mechanically and visually with weapon mods to enhance their functionality. There are 3 main class types each with their own weapon and armor styles, and those 3 classes are split into two subtypes with their own skill trees and playstyles. The game has everything you'd expect from a Diablo-like, minion masters, tanks, multiple types of melee and ranged damage dealers, and support characters. Because it was originally an online game meant for more long term play, it also has an endgame progression systems and alternate advancement, so finishing the story and hitting the level cap isn't the end.The game is a bit heavy on questing, and in some ways plays a little more like a MMO. The game is split into a bunch of quest hubs, off of which branch a large number of side areas, each hub has many quests handed to you in batches of 3-6 usually. Side quests generally don't grant a ton of exp, the reward is usually a piece of gear and a decent chunk of money, you could skip them if you wanted. The main quest has many steps to it though and must be followed. Leveling is rather slow, even having played through the game many times in the past it's taken me about 7 hours to reach level 12 or 13, I'm not rushing and it could probably be done faster, but it's not quite like other games in the genre where you can be done with the main content and near the level cap in a dozen hours or whatever.
